This striking print commemorates the triumphant victory of Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown, over the Dutch fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral Jan de Winter on the fateful day of October 11, 1797. The battle, which took place off the coast of Camperdown in the Netherlands, marked a significant turning point in the Anglo-Dutch War of 1795-1814. Admiral Duncan, born in 1731, was a highly respected naval officer in the British Royal Navy. Known for his tactical brilliance and unyielding determination, he had already earned a reputation for his victories against the French in the American Revolutionary War.
