EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the historic Royal Standard pub, located on New Kent Road in the Old part of London, SE1 6AD. The image, taken in the 1910s, showcases the charming exterior of this public house, which was a popular watering hole for locals and travelers alike. The Royal Standard, which was not affiliated with the Charrington and Company Limited, had a rich trading history, as evidenced by the back of the print which details its record of business operations in 1913 and 1941. The pub, which was demolished and rebuilt in 1937, stood proudly on the corner, its red brick facade adorned with ornate detailing and large, arched windows. The Royal Standard was more than just a place to quench one's thirst; it was a community hub, a gathering place where stories were shared, friendships were forged, and memories were made. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back in time to an era of simpler pleasures and warm camaraderie.
