EDITORS COMMENTS
This charming photograph captures the Pier Hotel in Gravesend, Kent, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken from the corner of the pub, showcases its classic brick facade and the ornate details of its signage. At the time, the Pier Hotel was a thriving public house, managed by the Charrington and Company Limited. The back of the print reveals that the Pier Hotel had a rich trading history, with records dating back to 1929 and 1961. This photograph, taken in 1935, offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the character and charm of this historic pub. Over the years, the Pier Hotel has undergone some changes. By July 2018, it had been transformed into The Mug & Meeple, a gamer cafe. No longer a pub, it is now home to Gordian Knot Games Ltd. The transformation reflects the evolving nature of the community and the changing needs of its residents. Despite the passage of time and the changes that have taken place, this photograph remains a valuable reminder of the Pier Hotel's rich history and the role it played as a social hub in Gravesend's community during the 1930s.
