The 8th Infantry Regiment had landed on Utah Beach, but Roosevelt realized that they were not in their intended location. He faced a crucial choice: should he signal the following waves to change course, or accept the situation and press on? Roosevelt, a decorated military leader and the nephew of President Theodore Roosevelt, stayed and led his troops forward. Tragically, on July 12, 1944, he suffered a heart attack and passed away the following day at the age of 57. His bravery and leadership during the invasion earned him the Medal of Honor posthumously.
