EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print depicts the Comité du Débarquement Memorial at Oistreham, Normandy, France. Erected in 2008, this memorial is one of ten distinctive monuments put up at strategic points along the D-Day invasion sites to commemorate the historic landings that led to the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation. The memorial at Oistreham stands proudly beside a No. 4 Commando Plaque, which pays tribute to the heroism and bravery of the Allied Forces who landed here on June 6, 1944. The Commando unit, part of the British 2nd Special Air Service Brigade, played a crucial role in securing the area around Oistreham and paving the way for the larger Allied forces to follow. The memorials at Ste Mere Eglise, Omaha Beach, and Juno, among others, share a similar purpose, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Allied Forces during the D-Day invasion and the subsequent liberation of Europe.
