EDITORS COMMENTS
Maha Vajirunhis, born in 1877, was a prominent figure in the late 19th century history of Siam, now Thailand. This photograph captures the prince in his regal attire, exuding an air of authority and sophistication. Maha Vajirunhis was the eldest son of King Chulalongkorn, or Rama V, and Queen Suvadhana. He was educated in the Western style and was fluent in several languages, including English and French. In 1897, Maha Vajirunhis was appointed as the Governor of Phitsanulok, a northern province of Siam. During his tenure, he implemented various reforms to modernize the province and improve the living conditions of its people. He also established schools and hospitals, and encouraged the cultivation of cash crops such as rice and sugarcane. Maha Vajirunhis was known for his progressive views and his commitment to modernizing Siam. He was a strong advocate for the adoption of Western technology and education, and played a key role in the country's transition from a feudal society to a modern, centralized state. This photograph is a testament to Maha Vajirunhis's leadership and vision. It captures a moment in time when Siam was on the cusp of great change, and when men like Maha Vajirunhis were at the forefront of that change. The photograph also serves as a reminder of the rich history and cultural heritage of Thailand, and of the important role that its leaders have played in shaping the country's destiny.
