Born on January 2, 1766, in Paris, Comte de Las Cases was a prominent figure in the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era. He served as aide-de-camp to Napoleon and accompanied him on several campaigns, including Egypt and Russia. After Napoleon's defeat and exile, Comte de Las Cases was one of the few individuals granted access to the former emperor. During their conversations, which took place between 1816 and 1818, Comte de Las Cases recorded Napoleon's thoughts, reflections, and insights on various topics, including history, politics, and military strategy.
