Napoleons birth certificate, 19 July 1782, (1921). Acte de Bapteme de Joseph Bonaparte. Extrait authentique, date du 19 jullet 1782. The certificate states that Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was born in Corte, Corsica, on 8 January 1768, and given the first name Nabulion. This certificate has long been regarded as an alteration in order to add an extra year to Napoleons age, allowing him to apply to the military school in Paris, which he entered in 1784, aged 15 instead of 16. Facsimile document from " Napoleon", by Raymond Guyot. [H. Floury, Paris, 1921]

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Napoleon's birth certificate, dated 19 July 1782. The document, known as the Acte de Bapteme de Joseph Bonaparte, is an authentic extract that reveals intriguing details about the French military leader's early life. According to this certificate, Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Corte, Corsica on 8 January 1768 and given the first name Nabulion. However, this particular birth certificate has long been surrounded by controversy. It is believed to have been altered in order to add an extra year to Napoleon's age. This modification allowed him to apply for admission into the prestigious military school in Paris at the age of 15 instead of 16. The significance of this alteration lies in its impact on his subsequent rise through the ranks and eventual ascent as Emperor of France. The facsimile document featured here is taken from Raymond Guyot's book "Napoleon" published by H. Floury in Paris in 1921. Although it remains unclear who exactly created this photograph or when it was captured, its historical value cannot be understated. This image invites us to delve deeper into one of history's most influential figures while also raising questions about authenticity and manipulation within official documents.
