Shays Rebellion. Massachusetts militia fires on Shays rebels to protect a federal arsenal, the Springfield Armory, Jan. 26. 1787. After firing warning shots, the state militia used grape shot from two cannons, killing four Shayites, and wounded 20. The rebels scattered to bordering states. Their last action was an attack on Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Feb. 27, 1787 (BSLOC_2019_5_173).
