EDITORS COMMENTS
Great photo capturing a memorable moment in Arsenal's 2016-17 Premier League season: Laurent Koscielny's first goal for the Gunners against Southampton. The French center-back, who had been with the club since 2010, was known for his defensive prowess and leadership abilities, but scoring goals was not something he did frequently. However, on September 10, 2016, at Emirates Stadium, Koscielny changed that. In the 33rd minute of the match, Arsenal was awarded a free-kick just outside the Southampton penalty area. Mesut Özil delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, and Koscielny rose above the opposition to head the ball past Fraser Forster and into the net. The Arsenal captain's reaction spoke volumes as he celebrated wildly with his teammates, embracing Alexis Sánchez and Granit Xhaka in a heartfelt moment of joy and relief. The goal not only boosted Arsenal's morale but also proved to be a crucial one, as they went on to win the match 1-0. This victory marked the beginning of a successful run for the Gunners, who eventually finished the season in fifth place, securing a spot in the Europa League. This photo encapsulates the spirit of teamwork, determination, and unexpected triumph that is synonymous with football. Koscielny's goal serves as a reminder of his invaluable contribution to Arsenal and the unique moments that make the beautiful game so special.
