Pardalotes Framed Print Collection

Pardalotes are a family of passerine birds native to Australia and New Guinea, and are small, brightly coloured birds with short, stout bills. Pardalotes feed mainly on insects and spiders, which they catch by hovering in the air or gleaning from foliage. They also eat some fruit and nectar. The four species of pardalote found in Australia include the Spotted Pardalote, Striated Pardalote, Red-browed Pardalote and Forty-spotted Pardalote. These birds live in open woodlands or forests with an abundance of trees for nesting sites. They build their nests high up in tree hollows or crevices using bark strips, grasses and feathers to construct a cup-shaped nest lined with soft material such as fur or feathers. All species are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to their wide distribution across Australia and New Guinea.
