Pokhara, Nepal - October 1984; Pokhara used to be famed as the small town where old hippies went to fade away... but it is so much more. It offers stunning views - like this - of Mount Annapurna. This was totally cloud-covered for three days when we were there - just this flash of the summit early one morning.
Annapurna is a stunning massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal that includes one peak over 8, 000 metres, thirteen peaks over 7, 000 metres, and sixteen more over 6, 000 metres. Thats a LOT of big mountains. And they are notoriously difficult to climb.

During our visit, the mountain remained veiled by clouds for three consecutive days until a fleeting moment early one morning when its summit emerged from the mist. Annapurna is an awe-inspiring massif nestled in the Himalayas of north-central Nepal. It boasts an impressive collection of peaks: one exceeding 8,000 meters, thirteen surpassing 7,000 meters, and sixteen more towering above 6,000 meters. These colossal mountains are renowned for their challenging nature when it comes to mountaineering.
