A centipedes body is divided into segments, each containing a pair of legs. The number of segments varies from twelve to over one hundred. The legs on the first trunk segment (centre left) terminate in claws that contain poison glands. The centipede uses these claws to seize and kill its prey. Also seen (one running from centre to far right) are the centipedes antennae. Lithobius centipedes are ground-dwelling hunters. They are blind and so hunt by touch with their antennae.
