A view of Billy Brays Three Eye Chapel. The chapel was built by Billy Bray in 1835 and, since its closure in 1982, is now cared for by the Billy Bray Memorial Trust as a memorial to the memory of Billy Bray. This is one of two United Methodist chapels that were located in Baldhu, the other being Bethel. William Trewartha Bray (born on 1st June 1794) was a Cornish tin miner and, for 43 years, a renowned local preacher in the Bible Christian Methodist denomination. He was 73 years old when he died on 25th May 1868 at Twelveheads. His monument and grave can be found in the churchyard to the south end of Baldhu Anglican Church, the Church of St Michael the Archangel. Photographer: Unknown

This print showcases the Kerley Downs Methodist Chapel, located in Baldhu, Kea, Cornwall. Believed to have been taken in the early 1900s, it offers a glimpse into the rich religious history of this picturesque region. The chapel depicted here is commonly referred to as "Billy Brays Three Eye Chapel" named after its builder and founder, William Trewartha Bray. Constructed by Billy Bray himself in 1835, this chapel served as a place of worship for over a century until its closure in 1982. Today, it stands as a cherished memorial to the memory of Billy Bray under the care of the Billy Bray Memorial Trust. Baldhu was home to two United Methodist chapels; Bethel being the other one apart from Kerley Downs Methodist Chapel. William Trewartha Bray was not only known for his role as a Cornish tin miner but also gained renown as a local preacher within the Bible Christian Methodist denomination for an impressive span of 43 years. William passed away at Twelveheads on May 25th, 1868 at the age of 73. His final resting place can be found in Baldhu Anglican Church's churchyard towards its southern end - St Michael the Archangel Church. The photographer responsible for capturing this remarkable image remains unknown. Nevertheless, through their lens we are transported back in time to witness both architectural beauty and historical significance intertwined with religion and parish life within Cornwall's vibrant community.
