EDITORS COMMENTS
"Step back in time with this vintage gem! This print showcases a rare counter card from the early 1920s, promoting the iconic Drumhead Cigarettes by John Player and Sons. The triangular-shaped card immediately draws your attention to its mesmerizing centerpiece – a young drummer boy proudly donning a busby, tailed coat, breeches, and gaiters. With a pack of 10 Drumhead cigarettes strapped to his back, he stands atop an array of other tobacco packets. Above him stretches a majestic banner adorned with two drums displaying the insignia and battle honors of the esteemed Queens Royal Lancers. The text on the banner boldly proclaims "PLAYERs // DRUMHEAD // CIGARETTES" capturing the essence of this timeless brand. The left-hand side panel tempts smokers with an irresistible offer: "10 // FOR // 4D". Meanwhile, on the right-hand side panel, it entices even further with "20 // FOR // 8D". These prices take us back to an era when smoking was not only fashionable but also affordable. This remarkable piece is accompanied by a paper label attached with masking tape that indicates its approximate date as around 1920-21. On its reverse side lies remnants of what once allowed it to stand upright along with a handwritten note reading 'C73.
