Gentle gorilla Etoumbie is swapping the good life for a sex life

Gentle gorilla Etoumbie is swapping the good life for a sex life. He is going home to Africa after ten years in Britain. He grew up here, and at Howletts Zoo in Kent he had almost everything his heart desired. His quarters were equipped with ropes and tyres to play with, friendly keepers and an admiring public. But Etoumble is now eleven, the age when gorillas start to feel another desire. The snag is, there is no suitable mate for him; so he is going to begin adult life in Gabon, a few hundred miles from rain forester where he was born. Parting kiss Etoumbie, the 21-stone giant gantly kisses Zoo owner John Aspinall before leaving his old home.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we witness the bittersweet farewell of gentle gorilla Etoumbie as he prepares to leave his comfortable life in Britain for a new chapter back home in Africa. Having spent ten years at Howletts Zoo in Kent, Etoumbie had enjoyed a life filled with endless playtime, caring keepers, and an adoring public. However, now eleven years old, he is beginning to feel the undeniable call of nature - the desire for companionship. Sadly, there is no suitable mate for him here in Britain. And so, with a heavy heart but hopeful anticipation, Etoumbie embarks on a journey to Gabon where he was born amidst the lush rainforests just a few hundred miles away. As captured by this poignant image taken on August 10th, 1982, we see Etoumbie bidding farewell to his beloved zoo owner John Aspinall with one last tender kiss. The photograph encapsulates both sadness and excitement; it portrays the emotional complexity of leaving behind all that is known and venturing into the unknown. It serves as a reminder of our shared connection with these magnificent creatures and their innate need for companionship and love. This snapshot from Memory Lane Prints allows us to reflect upon not only Etoumbie's personal journey but also our responsibility towards preserving wildlife habitats and ensuring suitable environments for these incredible animals to thrive alongside their own kind.
