EDITORS COMMENTS
Scouts and Cubs from the 40th Middlesbrough Marton Troop take on a noble mission during their Easter holidays, as they tackle the littered woodland in Cypruss Road. Armed with shovels, rakes, and sacks, these determined lads are determined to clear away tons of rubbish left behind by visitors each year. This two-day cleanup is part of a national competition organized by Operation Clean Up and sponsored by Middlesbrough Council and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Last year's success saw these dedicated scouts clearing an impressive 25 tons of rubbish, including discarded coke cans and old bikes. Their efforts earned them the prestigious Northeast regional prize of £75. Now, fueled by their previous triumphs, this group of young volunteers returns to make an even greater impact. In this print captured on April 18th, 1981, we witness the spirit of community service radiating from these schoolchildren dressed in their iconic uniforms. The image serves as a powerful reminder that when children come together for a common cause - be it cleaning up our environment or making positive change - incredible things can happen. This snapshot from Teesside Archive encapsulates the essence of teamwork and dedication displayed by these Scouts and Cubs during their commendable project. It stands as a testament to the power that lies within communities working together towards creating cleaner spaces for all.
