Some of the old players present shared the same dressing room as Watkins, who guaranteed his place in Glamorgan folklore by becoming the first player from the county to score a Test hundred and the first to appear in an Ashes Test. Simple statistics show the scale of Watkins ability as a genuine all-rounder in the immediate post-war era. In a 23-year Glamorgan career containing 407 appearances, Watkins scored 17, 419 runs his tally of 29 first-class hundreds placing him seventh in the clubs all-time list and took 774 wickets. 4th, June, 1956
