Ninety Warwick children had their first lessons in open-plan classrooms yesterday when
Ninety Warwick children had their first lessons in open-plan classrooms yesterday when they returned to school in a new building. They are in the junior section at St. Marys R.C. Primary School in Warwick, but have moved into the part of the new school in Priory Pools which will eventually be used for the infants. Meanwhile, yesterday the 60 infants were being taught as usual in the old school in West Street, built in 1905 and nicknamed " The Black Hole of Calcutta." The new school is due to be completed by Christmas at a cost of 25, 000 and will include a gym, music rooms, and playing fields. The schools parent-teacher association recently started a fund to build a 3, 000 swimming pool at the new school.
Our photograph is of Mr. Don Thurlow, teacher in charge of junior two class, talking to the boys and girls during their first day in the recently completed premises.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in the educational journey of ninety Warwick children. As they returned to school, their eager faces radiate excitement and curiosity as they step foot into the brand new open-plan classrooms at St. Marys R. C. Primary School in Warwick. Previously housed in an old school building known as "The Black Hole of Calcutta" built over six decades ago, these young learners now find themselves immersed in a modern learning environment that promises endless possibilities for growth and development. Under the guidance of Mr. Don Thurlow, teacher in charge of junior two class, this group of boys and girls embark on their first day within these recently completed premises. The spaciousness and innovative design of the open-plan classrooms create an atmosphere conducive to collaboration, exploration, and creativity. However, this is just the beginning for St. Marys R. C. Primary School's transformational journey. With plans underway to complete construction by Christmas at a cost of 25,000 pounds, students can look forward to additional amenities such as a gymnasium, music rooms, playing fields – all contributing to a well-rounded education. Notably driven by parental involvement through the parent-teacher association's fundraising efforts for a swimming pool worth 3,000 pounds at the new facility – it is evident that this community values providing its children with opportunities beyond traditional academics. This photograph serves as both a testament to progress made thus far and an exciting glimpse into what lies ahead for these bright young minds at St. Marys R. C Primary School.
