A Trinity House steamer waits off the Eddystone Lighthouse to delivery Christmas supplies
A Trinity House steamer waits off the Eddystone Lighthouse to delivery Christmas supplies to the keepers. The Eddystone Rocks are located 8 miles off Rame Head, Cornwall. The present tower is the 5th lighthouse to be built here. Designed by James Douglass and completed in 1882 the light is still in use today. Its original oil powered lamps were replaces in 1956 by electrics. A helicopter deck added in 1980, and the station became automated and unmanned in 1982. The light flashes two whites every 10 seconds, with a range of 24 miles.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to December 1938, witnessing a heartwarming scene off the coast of Cornwall. A Trinity House steamer patiently waits off the majestic Eddystone Lighthouse, its purpose clear - to deliver Christmas supplies to the dedicated keepers who tirelessly guard this iconic structure. The Eddystone Rocks, located 8 miles off Rame Head, provide a dramatic backdrop for this snapshot in time. Standing tall as a symbol of resilience and innovation, the present tower is actually the fifth lighthouse built on these treacherous rocks. Designed by James Douglass and completed in 1882, it continues to guide ships safely today. Originally powered by oil lamps that illuminated these perilous waters until 1956 when they were replaced with electric lights. The light emitted from this historic beacon flashes two whites every ten seconds, reaching an impressive range of 24 miles. As we delve into the details of this photograph's historical significance and architectural beauty, let us not forget its underlying themes: shipping vessels navigating through challenging waters while spreading joy during a festive season. This image encapsulates both nature's raw power and humanity's unwavering determination to connect with one another even amidst adversity.
