The Casual Ward was a temporary shelter for the destitute, those who were unable to prove they had a regular source of income or a fixed abode. The ward provided a night's lodging and a hot meal, but the conditions were far from ideal. The history of the Marylebone Workhouse and Infirmary is an important chapter in the social history of London.
