EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Thelma, Viscountess Furness, also known as Thelma Morgan before her marriage, poses confidently and alluringly for the camera. Born in 1904, she was a woman of great beauty and charm, who once held the heart of the future King of England, Edward VIII, before his infamous love affair with Wallis Simpson. Edward VIII's reign as King was short-lived, as he abdicated the throne in 1936 in order to marry the American socialite Wallis Simpson, who was divorced and considered an unsuitable match for a monarch. Thelma, however, had been a part of Edward's life long before Wallis entered the picture. They met in the early 1920s, and their relationship continued on and off for over a decade. Thelma was a popular figure in high society, known for her striking looks and her ability to captivate men. She was married to the wealthy British peer, 6th Viscount Furness, from 1928 until his death in 1956. Despite her marriage, her connection to Edward VIII remained a subject of fascination and speculation. This photograph, taken in the 1930s, captures Thelma at the height of her beauty and allure. She wears a elegant gown, with a low-cut neckline that accentuates her neck and décolletage. Her hair is styled in soft waves, framing her face and drawing attention to her piercing blue eyes. Thelma's expression is one of confidence and seduction, as if she is fully aware of the power she holds over those around her. Despite the passage of time, Thelma's story continues to intrigue historians and the public alike. She remains a fascinating figure in the annals of British history, a woman who came close to being the Queen Consort of England, but ultimately was overshadowed by Wallis Simpson. This photograph is a testament to her beauty and charisma, and a reminder of the complex and often scandalous history of the British monarchy.
