Amidst the rugged landscapes of Scotland's Highlands, a notorious highwayman makes his hidden lair known only to the wind and the wild. Dating back to the 19th century, this evocative image captures the enigmatic figure at the entrance of his cave by the roadside, armed with a sword and other weapons, his face obscured in shadow. The nineteenth century was a time of lawlessness and banditry in Scotland, with the Highlands providing the perfect cover for criminals such as this highwayman and his ilk.
