Avro Lancaster I Aries, PD328, of the Empire Air Navigation School, Shawbury, warming up prior to its England to Cape Town record-breaking flight of 32hrs 21min. This aircraft had Lancastrian nose and tail sections, Lincoln undercarriage and extra fuel tanks in the nose and bomb bay. It also carried the newest navigational aids. After a series of long-range flights between 1944 and 1947 and covering 200, 000 miles the aircraft was retired. Date: 1944

The Avro Lancaster I Aries was a remarkable aircraft, featuring Lancastrian nose and tail sections, Lincoln undercarriage, and additional fuel tanks in the nose and bomb bay. Equipped with the latest navigational aids, this aircraft was a testament to the advancements in aviation technology during World War II. The Avro Lancaster I Aries had already undergone a series of long-range flights between 1944 and 1947, covering an impressive 200,000 miles. In this image, we see the aircraft warming up prior to embarking on its most notable journey, which would ultimately set a new record of 32 hours and 21 minutes.
