This print showcases a collection of scenes from Gioachino Rossini's iconic opera, "The Barber of Seville," along with portraits of the composer and the librettist, Felice Romani, as well as the illustrator, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot's depiction of Figaro, the title character. The opera, first performed in 1816, is based on Pierre Beaumarchais' play "The Marriage of Figaro," and is renowned for its witty libretto and memorable music. The scenes depicted in this print include Figaro shaving Almaviva, the Count's attempt to woo Rosina, and the comedic chaos that ensues as Figaro outwits the Count. Rossini, born in Pesaro, Italy, in 1792, was a prolific composer of operas, symphonies, and chamber music. His innovative use of leitmotifs and quick pacing revolutionized the opera world, and "The Barber of Seville" is considered one of his greatest masterpieces. Felice Romani, the librettist, collaborated with Rossini on many of his most successful operas, including "The Barber of Seville."
