The mansion was the home of the renowned ballerina, Matilda Kseshinskaya, who was once a favorite of the last Tsar of Russia, Nicolas II. The Red Guard, clad in their distinctive red uniforms, were a formidable presence during the revolution, playing a significant role in the overthrow of the Provisional Government and the eventual seizure of power by the Bolsheviks.
