The Ponte de Luís I, a historical landmark and an engineering marvel, graces the picturesque cityscape of Porto, Portugal. This high single-span arch bridge, designed by the renowned engineer Théophile Seyrig and built between 1881 and 1886, stands as a testament to the rich architectural heritage of Portugal. Situated in the heart of the city, the bridge spans the Dou River, connecting the Ribeira district on the left bank with Vila Nova de Gaia on the right. The bridge's elegant design, with its distinctive wrought-iron lattice towers and a central arch of 172 meters (564 feet) in length, has become an iconic symbol of Porto and a must-visit attraction for tourists from around the world. The Ponte de Luís I holds a significant place in the history of Porto. It replaced the older Ponte de Maria Pia, which was constructed in 1843 and could no longer accommodate the growing traffic demands.
