This evocative photograph captures the sight of a British E-class submarine, a key component of the Royal Navy's formidable fleet during the First World War. The image was likely taken from another naval vessel during the 1910s, a time when the E class served as the backbone of the submarine fleet in the face of the growing threat posed by enemy warships. The E class, designed and built by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness, was a significant improvement over its predecessors, with a longer hull, improved engines, and a more streamlined design.
