This poignant print depicts the Neuville au Plein Memorial Plaque, located in the picturesque village of Neuville-au-Plein, France. The plaque stands as a testament to the brave actions of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 505 Parachute Regiment of the American 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. The 82nd Airborne Division, renowned for its rapid deployment capabilities, played a significant role in the Allied invasion of Europe. In the early hours of June 6, 1944, Company D parachuted into the area around Neuville-au-Plein, landing in the midst of enemy lines. Despite facing heavy resistance, the paratroopers managed to secure key positions and hold their ground, paving the way for the larger Allied forces to establish a foothold in Normandy. The Memorial Plaque was erected in 2005 by the Quincy Brigade of the C47 Club, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the C-47 Skytrain aircraft, which played a crucial role in the delivery of American paratroopers during the invasion.
