This striking historical print captures the moment of the baptism of young Louis XIII, who would later become King of France in 1610 following the assassination of his father, King Henri IV. The image, dated 1606, depicts the five-year-old Louis XIII being held by his mother, Marie de Medicis, as he receives the sacrament of baptism from a priest. His assassination in May 1610, at the hands of a fanatical Dominican monk, came as a shock to the kingdom.
