A pioneer in aviation, de Lesseps was determined to create a flying machine that mimicked the natural flight of birds. The monoplane, named "La Fregate," boasted innovative wings designed to function like avian wings, featuring a flexible leading edge and a cambered trailing edge. De Lesseps' groundbreaking design was a significant departure from the rigid, fixed-wing aircraft of the time. The aviator believed that the flexibility of the wings would allow for greater maneuverability and stability in the air. The monoplane's wings were constructed using a lightweight wooden frame and covered in fabric, making it an elegant and streamlined machine.
