Born on February 15, 1810, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Inglis was educated at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow before embarking on a successful legal career. He was called to the Scottish Bar in 1833 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Queen's Counsel in 1854 and eventually serving as Lord Advocate, the chief legal officer of Scotland, from 1866 to 1871. Inglis was not only a distinguished jurist but also an active member of the Scottish Conservative Party. He served as a Member of Parliament for various Scottish constituencies between 1847 and 1885, representing the Conservative Party. Inglis was known for his strong conservative views and his commitment to upholding the law and order. This photograph captures John, Lord Glencorse in his later years, with a stern yet calm expression on his face.
