Born on February 21, 1801, in London, England, Newman initially pursued a career in the Church of England as an Anglican priest and university professor. However, his deep spiritual introspection and scholarly pursuits led him to question the foundations of Anglican doctrine. After a long and arduous journey of faith, Newman converted to Catholicism in 1845, becoming a Roman Catholic priest the following year.
