This evocative portrait captures the enigmatic and complex character of James V of Scotland, who ruled from 1513 to 1542. Born on April 15, 1512, James was the only surviving son of King James IV and Queen Margaret Tudor, making him the grandnephew of King Henry VIII of England. His reign was marked by political instability, military campaigns, and religious upheaval. The image, believed to be a depiction of James in his late twenties, showcases his regal bearing and striking features. James wears the royal Scottish robes, adorned with the fleur-de-lis, and holds a scepter in his right hand, symbolizing his power and authority.
