This image depicts the constellation Olor, also known as Hyginus, represented as a majestic swan gliding through the night sky. The constellation, which is located in the southern hemisphere, can be traced back to ancient Greek mythology. According to the myth, Zeus transformed the Lydian king, Byzas, and his daughter, Hesper, into swans after they were persecuted by their own people for their unusual love and devotion to each other. The constellation of Olor, which is part of the larger constellation of Argo Navis, was first documented by the Italian astronomer Johannes Hevelius in his star atlas "Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia," published in 1690. However, it is believed that the constellation was known to ancient astronomers as early as 1681, when it was mentioned in the "Uranometria" by the German astronomer Johann Bayer. The stars that make up the constellation of Olor are not particularly bright, making it a challenge for stargazers to locate. However, the swan's distinctive shape, with its head and neck stretching towards the south, makes it an intriguing and rewarding find for those who seek it out.
