Broadhurst's political career spanned over four decades, during which he championed various radical causes and advocated for social reforms. Born in London, Broadhurst began his political journey as a member of the Liberal Party. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1874, representing the constituency of Derbyshire South. Known for his eloquent speeches and unwavering commitment to his beliefs, Broadhurst quickly gained a reputation as a radical statesman. Throughout his parliamentary tenure, Broadhurst championed numerous causes, including the extension of the franchise, labor rights, and educational reforms. He was a vocal critic of the Boer War and advocated for peace and reconciliation between Britain and the Boer people. Broadhurst's radical views often put him at odds with his conservative colleagues, but he remained a formidable presence in the House of Commons.
