The fire, believed to have started in a nearby warehouse, quickly spread and engulfed several buildings, including the GNER Hotel. The hotel, which was a prominent feature of Leeds' bustling commercial district, was a grand Victorian edifice with ornate decor and luxurious accommodations. The upper corridor and grand staircase, depicted in the photograph, are testament to the opulence of the hotel.
