Born on October 20, 1820, in North Bend, Ohio, Harrison moved with his family to Indiana when he was just a boy. He grew up in the frontier town of Corydon and attended Hanover College before embarking on a distinguished military career. Harrison's military service began during the Mexican-American War, where he rose to the rank of brevet major general. After the war, he returned to Indiana and became involved in politics. Harrison served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives and later as a U.S. Senator. In 1888, Harrison was elected as the 23rd President of the United States.
