Daughter of Princess Louise Victoria, Duchess of Fife, and Alexander, Duke of Fife, Maud was born into the esteemed British royal family. At the time of this photograph, she was just a young girl, adorned in a delicate necklace and a pearl accessory that added a touch of sophistication to her innocent appearance. The Duke and Duchess of Fife were the Earl and Countess of Carrick, and the Earl of Moray and Baron Arbuthnott of that Ilk in the Peerage of Scotland. Princess Maud's future husband, Lord Carnegie, was the eldest son of the 9th Earl of Northesk and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. The couple married in 1919, and Maud became the Countess of Northesk and later the Countess of Southesk.
