EDITORS COMMENTS
1892: A Circular Discussion at the Seashore - "Did yer Father catch any fish?" This evocative photograph captures a lively discussion among a group of boys and fishermen at the seashore, all gathered around a jar filled with freshly caught minnows and other small fry. The scene is set against the backdrop of the vast expanse of the sea, with the sun casting long shadows over the sandy shoreline. The boys, dressed in typical turn-of-the-century attire, are engrossed in a spirited conversation, their faces filled with excitement and wonder. One boy, with a proud expression, answers the question posed by another, "Yes, my Father caught some." The inquisitive boy then asks, "Were they big?" The fisherman replies, "They were bigger than the little uns." The question of the size of the "little uns" is then posed, and the response is, "They were none so big." The boys continue to ask questions and make enquiries about the size of the catch, the methods used to catch the fish, and the various sizes of the fish. The scene is filled with a sense of camaraderie and shared enthusiasm for the simple pleasure of fishing. In the background, a flock of birds can be seen flying overhead, adding to the sense of movement and life at the seashore. The photograph is a charming snapshot of a bygone era, capturing the spirit of curiosity and conversation that exists among groups of boys and men when they come together to share in the experience of a day's catch.
