The ordinances were an attempt by the monarchy to quell growing dissent and unrest in the country, but instead, they ignited a firestorm of opposition. The year 1830 was a time of political instability in France. Economic hardships, coupled with widespread discontent over the monarchy's authoritarian rule, had fueled growing unrest.
