"This striking stereo card photograph captures the historic moment when Cetewayo, also known as Cetshwayo KaMpande, the legendary Zulu king of South Africa, visited Britain during his exile in 1884. The image, taken during his stay in London, showcases the regal presence of the African monarch dressed in traditional attire, adorned with intricate beadwork and a distinctive hat, which symbolized his royal status. Cetewayo's visit to Britain came after his defeat in the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879, during which the British Empire sought to expand its territorial control over the Zulu Kingdom.
