This evocative photograph captures Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890) towards the end of his illustrious career as a renowned Austrian-English sculptor. Boehm's artistic journey began in Vienna, where he was born into a family of modest means. His exceptional talent was recognized at an early age, and he was sent to study under the tutelage of the esteemed sculptor, Johann Nepomuk Hochreiter. Boehm's artistic prowess soon brought him to the attention of the British Royal Family, leading to a move to England in 1858. He was appointed as the official sculptor to Queen Victoria and went on to create numerous portraits of members of the royal family and other prominent figures of the time.
