The American schooner, Jefferson Borden, on board which an attempted mutiny took place during April 1875, in the course of a trip from New Orleans to London. The mutiny was foiled by the Captain, William Manson Patterson, and the steward, Aitken, but both first and second mates lost their lives at the hands of the mutineers led by a Russian Finn named Miller.

The schooner, named after Thomas Jefferson and the sixth President of the United States, was a symbol of American maritime prowess. However, this tranquil facade was shattered when a mutiny broke out on board. The mutiny was led by a Russian Finn named Miller, who managed to rally the crew against the Captain, William Manson Patterson, and the second mate. The first mate, unfortunately, was also caught up in the chaos and lost his life, along with the second mate, during the course of the mutiny. Despite being outnumbered, Captain Patterson and the steward, Aitken, managed to quell the rebellion. Their quick thinking and bravery prevented the situation from escalating further, saving the lives of the remaining crew members.
