Known for his passion and enthusiasm for horse racing, Earl Stamford is depicted here in an informal setting, showcasing his distinctive whiskers and sideburns that were popular among men of the time. Born on October 11, 1827, George Harry Grey was the eldest son of Charles Grey, sixth Earl of Stamford and third Earl of Warrington, and Lady Elizabeth Sackville-West. He inherited the titles upon his father's death in 1845 and became a prominent figure in British society. Earl Stamford's love for horse racing was well-documented, and he was a regular attendee at major racing events throughout the country. His passion for the sport led him to become the Joint Master of the Quorn Hunt, one of the oldest and most prestigious hunting organizations in England.
