Castle Rock BAR03_01_542

CASTLE ROCK, LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH, NORTH DEVON. A view of Castle Rock from the north-east. The Valley of Rocks, also known as the Danes, runs parallel to the coast between Lynton and Lee Abbey. The dry valley is thought to have been formed during the last Ice Age when an ice sheet diverted the East Lyn River westwards. The retreat of the ice sheet allowed the river to resume its original path to the sea, and the valley subsequently silted up. Features in and around the valley include caves and rock formations

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic beauty of Castle Rock, situated in the enchanting landscape of Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon. The view from the north-east showcases the grandeur of this natural wonder, which stands tall amidst a backdrop of rugged cliffs and rolling hills. The Valley of Rocks, also known as the Danes, stretches parallel to the coast between Lynton and Lee Abbey. This dry valley is believed to have been carved out during the last Ice Age when an immense ice sheet diverted the East Lyn River westwards. As the ice retreated, allowing the river to find its original course towards the sea, sediment gradually filled up this remarkable valley. Within and around this geological marvel lie numerous caves and rock formations that add intrigue to an already breathtaking scene. The coastal geology on display here exemplifies both erosion's power and nature's resilience. Norman Barnard expertly captures these geological wonders with his lens, showcasing their raw beauty for all to admire. This print serves as a testament not only to North Devon's rich history but also as a reminder of our planet's ever-changing landscapes shaped by forces beyond our control.
