Laguna de los Peces (Fish Lagoon) is a lagoon located in the municipality of Galende of the province of Zamora (Castilla y Leon, Spain).Located in the region of Sanabria, is a lagoon mountain glacier that is located at an altitude of 1, 707 m, height requiring him to spend the late fall, winter and early frost spring and surroundings covered of snow. It is located in the vicinity of Lake Sanabria and belongs to the protected Sanabria Lake Natural Park space.The Sanabria Lake Natural Park is a Spanish nature reserve, located in the northwest corner of the province of Zamora (Castilla y LeAon), in the foothills of the Sierras and Cabrera Segundera.The origin of this natural area is located in the coldest phases of the Quaternary, when the glaciers Sanabria conditions that significantly affected the modeling of the mountains were established. During this period, the limit of perpetual snow settled around 1, 600 m above sea level, which allowed during the WAOErm glaciation in the highlands of the Sierra, heavy accumulations of snow and ice were established, causing a glacier plateau or cap. It diverged long, powerful tongues of ice encased in previous river valleys. 10, 000 years ago the ice age ended and the glacier tongue retreated leaving large bare and deep valleys, glacial cirques, fleecy rocks, glacial striations, moraines, lake and more than 20 lakes scattered throughout the mountains.This natural area was declared a natural park in 1978 and in 2015 was declared a transboundary biosphere reserve by UNESCO

Its lofty position requires it to endure the harshness of late fall, winter, and early spring frost with its surroundings blanketed in a pristine layer of snow. Laguna de los Peces is situated near Lake Sanabria and falls under the protection of the esteemed Sanabria Lake Natural Park. This Spanish nature reserve is found in the northwest corner of Zamora province, nestled amidst the foothills of Sierras and Cabrera Segundera. The origins of this natural wonder can be traced back to ancient times when glaciers shaped these mountains during colder periods known as Quaternary phases. The glacial conditions led to heavy accumulations of snow and ice on highlands above 1,600 meters above sea level. As time passed and temperatures rose after approximately 10,000 years ago, glaciers retreated leaving behind deep valleys adorned with glacial cirques, fleecy rocks, striations carved into stone by moving ice masses called moraines. Recognizing its ecological significance and breathtaking landscapes rich with geological history dating back thousands of years; this area was declared a natural park in 1978 before being designated as a transboundary biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2015.
