Usa-Ship-France-New York

The ocean liner " France" is welcomed by US fireboats on February 08, 1962 as she arrives in New York harbor after her first transatlantic trip. - The France was a Compagnie Gnrale Transatlantique ocean liner, constructed by the Chantiers de l Atlantique shipyard at Saint-Nazaire. Launched 11 May 1960, she was put into service in February 1962, combining regular transatlantic crossings - six days and nights - with winter cruises, as well as two world circumnavigations. The France was later renamed SS Norway and undertook mostly cruises for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). (Photo by - / AFP)

The grand vessel is warmly welcomed by US fireboats, their powerful streams of water creating an awe-inspiring display against the backdrop of the iconic Statue of Liberty. The France, built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard at Saint-Nazaire and launched on May 11,1960, embarked on her maiden transatlantic voyage before making New York her port of call. This Compagnie Générale Transatlantique masterpiece combined regular crossings between Europe and America with enchanting winter cruises and two remarkable circumnavigations around the world.
