EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the masterpiece "St Maurice (or St Victor) with a Donor" by the renowned Master of Moulins, also known as Jean Hey. Created around 1500-05, this oil on panel painting measures 58.4x49.5 cm and is currently housed in Glasgow Museums, UK. The composition depicts an ecclesiastic figure kneeling in humble devotion before St Maurice or St Victor, both adorned in exquisite attire. The donor is dressed in a sumptuous crimson velvet cape embellished with gold brocade, while the saint dons armor and a justaucorps of blue velvet sprinkled with trefoil motifs. Intricate details abound throughout the artwork - from the scarlet baldrick and kilt to the dark crimson-purple cloak trimmed with brown fur. The saint's laurel wreath features a ruby set amidst pearls, adding an air of regality to his appearance. The donor's reflection can be seen within the polished surface of the saint's armor, symbolizing their spiritual connection and shared devotion. A richly landscaped background unfolds behind them, featuring undulating meadows dotted with trees and crowned by a majestic castle nestled among rolling hills.
