Slingersfontein in the northern Cape Colony witnessed several engagements during the Boer War (1899-1902). The 12th Brigade consisted of the 2nd Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment, 2nd Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment and the 2nd Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment.
